Sandpiper Singers 2nd Grade Chorus
The Sandpiper Singers Chorus provides an opportunity for 2nd Grade Students to experience Fine Arts literacy through music, art, dance, and drama in a supportive setting. Sandpiper Singers will showcase the skills they have learned during performances at school assemblies and evening concerts throughout the year. Scheduled performances on November 10, December 15 and May 4th include student only assemblies at 8:00 & 9:00 a.m., and the friends/family show at 5:30 p.m.
Selection into the Sandpiper Singers Choral Program is through a lottery system which is open until maximum enrollment is reached. **Chorus Applications are due by Sept.12, 2022. A Chorus Membership Waitlist is implemented as openings become available throughout the school year. Rehearsal days are assigned according to homeroom class with the goal of having a balanced number of singers in each section. With this in mind, assigned rehearsal days may not be changed once chorus has begun.
Diverse, musical genres will be studied throughout the year with the fall/winter programs reflecting a traditional, concert setting; Spring programs will reflect musical theatre and include costumes, singing, dancing, and acting. Consequently, during the 2nd semester - once per week (according to homeroom class), chorus students will spend the last 25 minutes of school learning the drama, blocking, and choreography for one assigned scene in our show. This once per week school day practice session does not alter/replace the assigned after-school chorus rehearsal.
Attendance Policy: Rehearsals for the Sandpiper Singers 2nd grade Chorus will MOSTLY take place weekly BEGINNING September 20 or 22, 2022. After school rehearsals will take place on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 1:45 - 2:45 p.m. **Please note that the week prior to a concert, additional rehearsals (dismissing at 3:00 p.m.) will be held to ensure that our young singers enjoy a non-threatening, positive experience. The general rehearsal schedule is as follows: immediately following school, students will be dismissed to the cafeteria until 1:40 p.m. (Chorus members may bring a snack/drink if desired). At 1:40 p.m. chorus students proceed to the music room for rehearsal. Other than absences for illness, pre-planned trips, or family emergency, students need to be at ALL practice sessions. Students who have 3 unexcused absences in a semester will be dismissed from chorus. Excused absences must be approved by the chorus director in advance. 3 excused absences = 1 unexcused absence.
Dismissal time is 2:45 p.m. The music room is in the front of the school (to the right of the front entrance). To expedite the dismissal process, please stay in the carpool line when picking up your child. Student Car rider number Tags should be displayed in vehicle's front window (these may be obtained from the front office). We will bring each designated student out to your car.
Late Pickup: Unless you have prepaid HNPS Aftercare, your child will not have supervising adults scheduled to wait with your singer past the culmination of Chorus Dismissal. 3 Late Pickup times will result in dismissal from Chorus.
Performance Policy: Concert repertoire is widely varied and diverse. When appropriate, performances may include songs with a traditional, patriotic, or sacred text for purposes of historic, cultural, and academic enrichment. Sandpiper Singers will perform during morning school assemblies and evening concerts. Since performing is a goal of rehearsal, PARTICIPATION IN ALL PERFORMANCES IS A REQUIREMENT. Please send a note or e-mail to Mrs. Eddins immediately if your child is ill during the school day on a performance date. Please note that performances may be videotaped and will be photographed for the yearbook.
Behavior Policy: Students are expected to do their best, follow "BALL Rules" and use impulse control during all rehearsals and performances. Repeated misconduct will result in parents being contacted by telephone, in person, or through written correspondence. Chorus membership will be revoked if student conduct negatively impacts the progress of the Sandpiper Singers Chorus .
Volunteers are welcomed, needed, and GREATLY appreciated! Parents available to "lend a hand" with any of the following are encouraged to indicate their area of interest on the Sandpiper Chorus Student information form: chorus attendance, chorus dismissal, parent correspondence, copies, phone calls, audio/visual recording, transition assistance before/after practice and performances, concert/show supply donations, printed programs, stage management assistance, staging/set designs/props, photography, concert set up/disassembly, costumes, treasure box prizes, choreography and parties.
Rehearsal Attire: Sandpiper Singers T-Shirts should be worn to school on the singer's assigned rehearsal day.
Concert Attire: Unless otherwise indicated, concert attire consists of a Sandpiper Singers T-shirt and Blue Jean pants (not shorts) for performances.
